Match the switching duty
Select against the utilisation category, motor current and operating voltage. Frequent starting, reversing or inching can require a different selection from ordinary running duty.

Specify the control supply
Give the coil voltage, AC or DC supply and frequency where relevant. Confirm suppression devices and the available PLC or relay output.

Review the complete starter
Check the coordination of the protective device, contactor and overload using manufacturer data. Include interlocks and auxiliary feedback in the requirement.
